Trade Order POS goes international: set your currency, tax and country in one Locale setting
Trade Order POS started life at a UK trade counter. As of this update, it no longer assumes you are one: a new team-wide Locale setting lets you run the whole POS in your own market’s currency, tax and country.
What’s new
One Locale setting, four fields, applied across the POS, order confirmations, PDFs and quotes for your whole team:
- Currency symbol — £, $, € or whatever you trade in.
- Tax rate (%) — a single rate applied to orders, e.g. 20.
- Tax label — what the tax line is called: VAT, Tax, and so on.
- Default country — the country every new order starts with.
The examples in the setting itself: a US operation might use $ / 0% / Tax / United States; an Irish one € / 23% / VAT / Ireland. Leave any field blank and it resets to the UK default — £ / 20 / VAT / United Kingdom. Reload the POS after saving and the new locale is live everywhere.
What it is (and is not)
This is deliberately one locale for the whole team, not per-order switching. You pick one currency, one tax rate, one label and one country — perfect for a business based in the US or the EU, or a UK seller running a dedicated foreign-market operation. It does not switch currency per customer, calculate tax per destination country, or run several tax regimes at once. For most small traders, one honest setting beats a per-order matrix nobody maintains.
Why we built it
Plenty of Linnworks wholesalers are not British, and plenty of British ones run a dedicated EU or US operation. The same fast flow — scan, search, customer auto-fill, tier price, submit to Linnworks — now works with a dollar sign and a Tax line, or a euro sign and a VAT line, instead of assuming pounds.
A note on tax
The app applies the one rate and label you configure; it does not calculate tax per destination or give tax advice. Cross-border VAT and US sales tax rules depend on where you are registered and where you sell — confirm your obligations with your accountant, and with official sources such as gov.uk, europa.eu and your relevant state department of revenue.
